Scouts 2019

The scouts had a great year in 2019 and we added a 4th patrol the Cobras.

COMPETITIONS

We really enjoyed ourselves in the Provincial Competitions this year:

3rd in the Raynor Trophy – an overnight hiking competition for scouts 15 and older

3rd in the Upton Shield – a hiking competition for junior scouts

2nd in the Gordon Shield – a weekend camping competition

1st in the Provincial Orienteering

1st in the Quinn Trophy – we defended our title

6th in Kontiki – our best finish ever:

ADVENTURE AND ACTIVITIES

We has numerous adventures this year including Winter Camp at Sundowne Farm, we went paintballing, hiking and had a great time trying out new escape rooms:

COMMUNITY SERVICE

We continued to focus on community service with clean ups at Liesbeek river, Milnerton Beach. We also removed alien vegetation from the Rotary Youth Camp at Glencairn.

We also collected clothing, toys and books for Marsh Memorial Home which provides short term care for neglected and abused children.

First Class Hike – Matroosberg Reserve, Ceres: February 2014

4 scouts from the Cheetah Patrol went on an overnight adventure in the Matroosberg Mountain Range. They explored the reserve and reached the peak of 2249m high.

  

  

Kontiki 2015

We entered the Kontiki Raft building competition at Sandvlei Sea Scout Base. The challenge was to build a raft which 6 scouts can stay on for 24 hours, whilst completing a series of challenges. There are also land based competitions including volleyball and tug of war.

  

  

  

  

  

        

Community Service 2014

We are committed to making a difference in the community and undertake regular community service projects.

We raised over R32k for the Guide Dogs of SA – June 2014

Our cubs, scouts and parents had a cake and make sale. We cooked fairy cakes, brownies, banana bread and some savory snacks and sold these at Woolworths Head Office – along with some home made jewelry and knitted scarves.

We raised over R22 000 for the SA Guide Dog Association and the Woolworths Trust was so impressed with our efforts that they added an addition R10k.

We cleaned up the Liesbeek River – August 2014

Our cubs, scouts and parents spent one Sunday afternoon cleaning up the Liesbeek River between Boundary Road and Belmont road in Rondebosch. We cleared the river and its banks and filled up over 15 large bags of rubbish.

Thanks to the Friends of the Liesbeek River for introducing us to their organization and we really appreciated their talk on how they are rejuvenating the Liesbeek River and its banks for us all to enjoy.
